Tinseltown marriages may be known as being some of the shortest on record (remember Britney Spears and her mere 55 hours of being Mrs Jason Alexander in 2004?), but there’s one love affair in Hollywood that’s beaten all the odds and is continuing to thrive. It seems that nothing can come between a celebrity and their plastic surgeon.
With absolutely every cosmetic procedure increasing in popularity during recent years, surgery is without a doubt a top choice for those wanting to defy nature. Everyone wants to look good, and no one more so than the celebrity flavour of the month. In Hollywood, if you’re old, you’re out. So just what are the most well-known personalities in the world resorting to in order to keep themselves hot, young, relevant and, most importantly, employed?
Curvy Butts
With the exception of breasts, most plastic surgeries involve making something smaller. After all, for most people the image of perfection is a petite body with dainty features. Whether it be liposuction or nose jobs or even cosmetic toe surgery, the aim is always the same; to reduce size. That was, of course, until the butt augmentation fad began to take Hollywood by storm.
First performed as far back as 1969, the butt augmentation never really took off like other cosmetic surgeries until the arrival of celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce who were admired for having a bit of ‘junk in the trunk’. Skinny bums became associated with boyish figures, while shapely backsides became synonymous with the ‘real woman’.

In January 2012, Paris Hilton was spotted enjoying a spot of winter sun in Hawaii, sporting a decidedly rounder derriere than the slender hotel heiress was naturally blessed with. While Paris’s alleged new bum remains small, the new curves really enhance her enviable figure.

Retired adult film star, Jenna Jameson, stepped out in April 2012 wearing a figure-hugging dress that emphasised her rumoured brand new butt implants. Unfortunately for Jenna, the implants are simply too big for her tiny frame, making it look like she could topple over at any moment.
Fresh Faces
Once again, this seems to be a bizarre case of making things bigger rather than smaller. With the paparazzi photographing the every move of the latest celebrity crush, any weight fluctuations are bound to be noticed, especially in the face which is usually one of the first victims of a week of hot dogs and doughnuts. In spite of this, facial fillers are one of the hottest trends of the year.
Injections (and sometimes implants) are used to give the face a fuller and plumper look that evens out wrinkles and prevents even the skinniest of celebrities from looking gaunt and ill. When used correctly, facial fillers can make the face look tighter and fresher, so it’s especially popular amongst the ageing actors.

At the 2012 Academy Award ceremony, Kenneth Branagh stood proudly as a Best Supporting Actor nominee. Kenneth looked remarkable for his 51 years and news sources noted a significant improvement in his once craggy skin, which may (or may not!) be down to facial fillers.

In March 2012, Ashley Judd appeared on a Canadian talk show looking almost unrecognisable from the actress she was just two months earlier. Although Ashley’s body appeared as slim as ever, her face was rounded and puffy and appeared to be due to a botched facial filler procedure.
Breast Augmentation
Breast implants are the most common surgical cosmetic procedure in the world as many women just aren’t satisfied with what Mother Nature gave them. As with small butts, small boobs have cruelly become a symbol of the boyish figure that may have been popular once but is now being kicked to the kerb by the new generation of curvaceous Hollywood starlets.
Breast augmentation can provide much needed confidence in those who are unhappy with their bodies, but there’s a number of problems associated with this type of surgery. Not only are breast implants risky due to leakage, but choosing an implant just a cup size too big is, quite frankly, going to make you look ridiculous.

At the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2012, Twilight star, Kristen Stewart, appeared to have a new pair of friends. Donning a tight white t-shirt, Kristen looked to have grown from a small A cup to a modest B cup. Whether the result of surgery or just a good bra, the girls looked to be a good size for Kristen’s tiny frame.

In March 2012, British model and Big Brother contestant, Danielle Lloyd, was in hospital fighting for her life when her D cup implants exploded – not just once apparently, but twice! Danielle has since been quoted as saying she now much prefers her natural double A’s.
What will they think of Next?
As long as there are celebrities, there are going to celebrity fads, and as technology advances they’re going to get much more expensive, much more commonplace – and much more insane. A few years down the line, walking around town with bum fat in your chin and chopping your toes off all the name of beauty will seem like the norm as the procedures are knocked off the leader boards by the latest Hollywood trends.
While it’s sad that so many celebrities feel the need to change themselves to fit into their privileged society, as an outsider, it can be fascinating to watch the trends evolve and wonder whatever will they think of next?
